A great new year!

We kicked off our new year in September with many new faces!

Our first meeting was on September 13th when we shared our favorite thing for being a Mom.  Answers ranged from workout videos to iPhones to slings to wipes.  We heard it all and I am sure we all agreed that they were all great answers!  We also learned how to make the most of our old stuffed animals by making them into bookends!

On September 27th we had another great meeting with over 20 Moms!  We had a wonderful guest speaker, Carolyn Benitez, who showed us how to decorate cupcakes like a pro.  She showed us some great tips and tricks.  The main thing she passed on was that it is all about the frosting tip you use, which you can pretty much get at any department store. Carolyn gave us great encouragement and said that if we practice the simple techniques, not only will we decorate some great cupcakes but we can also save money by staying away from the bakery department!  I know I will be trying to do some decorating myself!

A New Year for MOPs!

Join us for the 1st meeting of the year on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 10 am!  Again, our meetings are held at Northeast United Methodist Church located at 4000 Hard Scrabble Road; Columbia, SC 29223.   Please bring your favorite item you’ve discovered since becoming a mommy.  It can be ANYTHING that makes your mom life easier or more fun.   Looking forward to seeing you all then!

March MOPs Bulletin

Military MOPs madness continues into March! Again we welcomed new members and little ones on the March 8th meeting. Attendance was at an all-time high with 15 adults! Our study on Dr James Dobson’s The New Dare to Discipline continued with discussion on chapters 3 through 5. It was interesting and refreshing to hear all the different parenting ideas and techniques that are being implemented within our group. The second portion of meeting involved cake for everyone! The generous moms threw a diaper shower for member, Brittany Sirmon, who is expecting her second girl in April.

The excitement will continue on March 22nd as our group will enjoy a delicious field trip to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts off of Clemson Road. There we will get to see firsthand how doughnuts are made and will get to sample the final product- YUM!!!

February Military MOPs bulletin

Northeast Military Mops News:

Our group continues to grow as we welcomed new members on both January 26th and February 9th meetings. On January 26th we had a guest speaker, Susie Watts, who shared some great ways and ideas to maximize our resources~ time, supplies, and efforts.  One of the many things she taught us was how to make your own laundry detergent using just 3 ingredients and resulting in only spending about $30 per year!

On February 9th the group started our study on Dr James Dobson’s The New Dare to Discipline. We discussed the first two chapters of his Christian based book and will be tackling four more for next month! After the study, we enjoyed a special Valentine’s Day craft with our kids to share with someone special.

Our Thursday, February 23rd meeting is moved to February 24th at which time we will be enjoying a great and free field trip with the kids to the Riverbanks Zoo!
